The Chambers of K Sumathi, Advocate, High Court of Madras, is looking to hire Junior Litigation Associates in Chennai.

Number of Openings:

Junior Associates: 4 (Four)

Interns: 4 (Four)

PQE: 2 years

Qualification: Enrolment in any of the State Bar Councils, preferably the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu

K Sumathi is an Advocate with a pioneering practice of more than three decades, specializing in gender justice, child laws, matrimonial laws, and civil and criminal laws. She is also an acclaimed author, writer, and orator.  

Nature of work

The office offers a dynamic and inclusive work environment that is not only conducive to continuous learning but also provides exceptional support, particularly for first-generation lawyers.

The regular work schedule would include attending court, undertaking registry work and research, drafting, and client consultations. 

Eligibility Criteria
Junior Associate

The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications:

Minimum two years of post-qualification work experience in litigation with a focus in civil, criminal, and matrimonial disputes. Freshers with relevant internship experience will also be considered.

Ability to effectively undertake registry work, including but not limited to filing cases, complying with queries raised, obtaining certified copies and other documents, and record maintenance.

Enrolment in any of the State Bar Councils, preferably the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Attention to detail and a strong commitment to delivering quality work.

Intern

Must have completed either second year of a 5-year law program or the first year of a 3-year law program.

Must be based in Chennai for the duration of the internship. The office is currently not accepting applications for online internships.

Must have an interest and passion to learn, along with a commitment to work.  

Must work at least 25 hours/week for a minimum of four weeks.

Common Requirements

Speaking and writing fluency in English. Basic speaking fluency in Tamil. Reading and writing proficiency in Tamil is an asset.

Excellent legal research, writing, and drafting skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Advanced or intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Word.

Salary/Stipend

Junior Associates: Pay commensurate with knowledge and experience.

Interns: Stipend of ₹ 5,000/- per month.
