MMBA General body Resolution /To place on record the members’ displeasure over the distasteful remarks made by Hon’ble Dr. Justice G. Jeyachandran against another Judge of the High Court Justice G.R. Swaminathan in the Reference Order in HCP No. 1163 of 2024 dated 06.06.2024.

The MMBA, in its General Body Meeting held on 13.06.2024 in the Lawyers Chamber premise of the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court passed the following Resolutions:

  1. To submit a proposal to the Government of Tamil Nadu to enact a law for the protection of Advocates from violent acts causing danger to their lives and bodies while discharging professional duties and responsibilities. A similar law has been enacted by the State of Karnataka called “The Karnataka Prohibition of Violence Against Advocates Act, 2023” which has been brought into operation since 11th June 2024.
  2. To take to the High Court administration, more specifically to the Hon’ble Acting Chief Justice, a few of the demands like:
  3. Allotment of more Judges to the Madurai Bench.
    1. Ensure adequate representation for the Madurai
      Bar in the Bench.
    2. Nomination of MMBA Members in High Court
      Committees.
    3. Appointment of Madurai Lawyers as Arbitrators.
    4. Medical Dispensary in chamber building.

   6. Additional lifts in the court building. 

  7. Auditorium for the Madurai Bench.

  8. Permission to use Judicial academy conference
      hall for seminors. 

9. Increase of strength of Appeal Examiners in all section. 
  1. To ensure there is no delay in the delivery of
    order copies.
  2. Providing free Wifi to the chamber building as per orders
    of the Hon’ble Apex Court.
  3. Allotment of additional space for the Association.
  4. To place on record the members’ displeasure over the distasteful remarks made by Hon’ble Dr. Justice G. Jeyachandran against another Judge of the High Court Justice G.R. Swaminathan in the Reference Order in HCP No. 1163 of 2024 dated 06.06.2024.
  5. To insist upon the Courts to stick to the Court Time schedule and not to take up cases before or after the Court Bell strikes except in respect of cases where both the parties have consented for the same.

The secretary is requested to communicate the resolution to the Hon’ble High court.
