Sri Rathina Vinayagar, Sri Durgai Amman Temple at Whites Road, Royapettah, Chennai is the only Sri Durga Temple at Chennai facing North. The temple is more than 250 years old. It has a Five Tier Raja Gopuram (Temple Tower) built some 30-40 years back. Chennai Metro had designed in such a way to demolish the Raja Gopuram for Phase II of the Chennai Metro project. The move to demolish the Raja Gopuram was challenged by way of PIL by devotees represented by Aalayam Kappom Foundation in WP No. 18163 of 2024 before Madras High Court. The Case was listed before the First Bench comprising of ACJ Justice R Mahadevan and Justice Shaffiq Mohammad today ie on 03/07/2024. Mr S.
