On 28.01.2023, the Madras High Court in a special sitting, heard a Writ Petition seeking performance of Mandalaabhishekam at Palani Arulmighu Dhandayuthapani Temple for 48 days pursuant to the Kumbabhishekam held on 27.01.2023.

Mr.P.Valliappan, Senior Advocate appeared on behalf of the petitioner. The Advocate General of Tamil Nadu Mr. Shanmughasundaram, appeared on behalf of the State.

The division bench consisting of Acting Chief Justice T Raja and Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy, disposed of the petition after the parties reached a consensus and the HR & CE department assured the Court that the prescribed ritual, viz. the 48-day long ritual of smearing sandalwood and other holy paste on the forehead of the temple deity’s idol, will go on for 48 days and that the Mandalaabhishekam will be performed with 1008 Conches on the 48th day.
