          A question was put to Mrs.C.Vasanthi, Manure Officer/Assistant Director, Office of District Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, Chennai, as to what are the steps that they have taken for ensuring a complete plastic ban in the State.  She has stated that, due to the pandemic, enforcement process has taken a back-seat, but, they are taking action against the violators.  The Court has suggested to the Official that, she would choose a particular Municipality and would report back to the Court within two weeks as to the effective steps that have been taken by the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department in that particular locality.  She has chosen Tambaram Municipality.

2. Mr.E.Vijay Anand, learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department,  is also directed to inform the Standing Counsel of Chennai Corporation to similarly identify an area where they would start the work of enforcement of plastic ban and report to this Court.  The Court suggested that, as a pilot project, the Corporation begins the process of eradicating plastics in Kolathur and Villivakkam Corporations.
3. Despite the order of this Court dated 04.10.2021 requesting the 2^nd Respondent to submit an Affidavit as to the steps that have been taken in the direction of eradicating plastics, particularly after the meeting titled ‘PRAGATI’ chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 24.02.20021, no Affidavit as to the steps that have been taken, has been filed on the side of the 2^nd Respondent.  The same shall be filed before the next hearing on 21.03.2022.
4. Mr.J.Ravindran, learned Additional Advocate General has appeared on behalf of Mr.E.Vijay Anand, learned Additional Government Pleader.
5. It is also made clear that, the learned Additional Solicitor General shall appear before this Court on 21.03.2022.
