[12/09, 08:41] sekarreporter1: There are 23 IITs nationwide, centrally administered by the IIT Council, an apex body established by the Govt of India. The Minister of Human Resources and Development (now the Hon. Education Minister) serves as the Ex officio Chairman of the Council. Based on the recommendations of the Standing Committee of the IIT Council to implement reservations for SCs/STs and OBCs in recruitment to teaching (faculty) positions at IITs, the Chairman of the IIT Council accepted this recommendation and implemented reservations.
It is essential to examine whether these reservations for OBC/SC/STs are strictly followed or if only lip service is provided at these IITs. An example will reveal the illegal activities.
Mr Kiren Kumar’s @aiobcsa response to an RTI query reveals a lack of adherence to constitutional reservations at IIT Gandhinagar @iitgn .
The total faculty strength is 190. The present number of faculty members is 135, with 116 from the General category, eight from the OBC category, seven from the SC category, and four from the ST category. These numbers defy adherence to constitutional reservations.
As the Chairman of the IIT Council, Honble @dpradhanbjp, it is imperative that your good self periodically review reservations for marginalised sections, hold the Directors of respective IITs accountable for any deviation, and initiate disciplinary action.
I request Hon. @dpradhanbjp, Hon. @Drvirendrakum13, and Hon. @arjunrammeghwal to propose amendments to respective Acts treating reservation denials for SC/ST and OBCs as atrocities against these communities, including punishment for the HODs.
This is the only way marginalised communities can be brought into the mainstream, and social justice can be enforced at all levels.
