“This court is mystified as to how an Order could be incorporated without the officer having read the same in the first place” the Madras High Court Bench of Dr Justice Anita Sumanth commented while directing the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation to pay Rs. 10 Lakhs to Cancer Institute for Non-Compliance of Order for De-sealing and Restoration of Services in the matter of property tax demand. The petitioner, Cheran Properties Limited, is in the second round of litigation. The first round involved a challenge to a demand notice issued by the respondent, demanding property tax as per Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Act, 1981 (‘Act’) for various periods
