Hon’ble Mr. Justice R.Mahadevan and Hon’ble Mr. Justice P.D.Audikesavalu filed by M.Karthikeyan, Advocate appearing as Party in Person. The allegation was that the government was not promoting and granting permission for carrying out Uzhavara panigal for cleaning and maintenance of the temples

Application to grant leave to initiate contempt proceedings for violation of orders passed by the division bench in Suo Motu WP 574/2015 came by before bench of Hon’ble Mr. Justice R.Mahadevan and Hon’ble Mr. Justice P.D.Audikesavalu filed by M.Karthikeyan, Advocate appearing as Party in Person. The allegation was that the government was not promoting and granting permission for carrying out Uzhavara panigal for cleaning and maintenance of the temples by general public and general public were facing severe hurdles to carry out Uzhavara Panigal. Photos of dilapidated conditions of Arulmighu Thirukarungudinathar temple, Maruthanallur, Kumbakonam were shown in the Court and the present condition of temple tank of Sthalasayana Perumal temple, Mahabalipuram was also brought to the notice of the Court by Mr.M.Karthikeyan. The Hon’ble Court took cognisance of the same and issued the following directions to comply-

  1. Directed the Government to submit its scheme for carrying out Uzhavara Panigal by the general public in temples across the state.
  2. Directed the Government to form a committee comprising of District Collector, RDO,BDO along with concerned jurisdictional Joint Commissioner of HR&CE Department to inspect 267- Padalpetra sthalam, 183- vaibhava sthalam and 84 – Vainava sthalam across the state. The Hon’ble Court also stated that after formation of this committee, this Committee along with a District Judge/Additional District Judge will be directed to inspect all these temples and file a report regarding their condition and status.
    The Hon’ble Court has directed the Government to comply with the above directions within a period of 2 weeks.
