These three petitioners have come knocking at the doors of this Court seeking permission to participate in the counselling session for joining 3 year law course, offered by the 1st respondent university.
.The petitioners had studied their 10th standard. They had then done their three year diploma / polytechnic in a recognized institution. They had subsequently, done their B.E., course, which is normally 4 years, but consequent to the 3 year / diploma / polytechnic course being recognized, they had been permitted lateral entry. They need not study the first year course, but joined in the second year and completed the course in the regular remaining time period of three year.
.I am informed by Mr.S.R.Raghunathan, learned Standing Counsel for the 2nd respondent, that a decision had been taken, that such candidates who had completed their 10th standard and thereafter, had done their 3 year diploma / polytechnic course in a institution, which is recognized by the Government and had later done their 3 year B.E., course in a recognized university, can also apply for and be considered eligible for admission to do the 3 year regular law course offered by the 1st respondent university and to be placed in any affiliated college of the 1st respondent university.
.The respondents herein are therefore directed to permit the petitioners to participate in the counselling session, which is ongoing and if they are otherwise eligible, offer them seats in the 3 year law course.
.Since this is a Court of record, let Mr.S.R.Raghunathan, learned Standing Counsel for the 2nd respondent, put this particular fact in writing that the 3 year lateral admission B.E., course will also be considered as eligible for joining 3 year law course.
.List all these three Writ Petitions for that particular statement in writing to be forwarded to this Court on 11.01.2023.
.The 1st respondent in their prospectus may also incorporate in the future years, that any candidate who had completed their 10th standard and the 3 year diploma / polytechnic and then complete their B.E., through lateral entry, would also be eligible for the 3 year regular course of law.
.Call the matters once again on 11.01.2023.
