(Order of the Court was made by N.Kirubakaran, J) Mr.K.Makesh, learned Special Government Pleader takes notice on behalf of respondents 1 and 4; Mrs.Karthikaa Ashok, learned standing counsel takes notice on behalf of respondents 2 and 3. 2.This Public Interest Litigation has been filed to direct the respondents to formulate and notify transparent and uniform rules, procedures and applicable rates for determining property taxes by the Assessment authorities in respect of all categories of buildings throughout Greater Chennai Corporation areas. 3.Eventhough this Court expressed its opinion that the petitioner is trying to stall the collection of property tax, the learned counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioner makes it clear that he does not want to stall the collection of money. He wants a fair levying and collection of property tax as there are many malpractices by the officials in the levy of property tax and collection. 4.It is a known fact that last revision of property tax in Chennai was only during 1998. Therefore, steps should be taken to find out the corrupt officials who involve in such practices and action should be initiated against them. 8.In view of the above position, the following queries are raised: (i) What was the property tax collected pursuant to the revision made in 1998? (ii) What was the yearly collection before revision made in 2018? (year wise details to be given) (iii)What is the amount collected pursuant to the revision made in the year 2018 onwards? (year wise details to be given) (iv)Why the Government has taken the decision to suspend the revision of property tax? (v) When the recommendations of the committee will be submitted? (vi)How many Malls and IT corridors, Commercial complexes are situated in Chennai? (vii)What was the amount levied on those buildings? (viii)How much was collected? (Individual details to be given) (ix)What would have been the property tax collection in case revision done in 2003, 2008 and 2013? (x) Whether all the amenities are being provided to the extended area of Greater Chennai?
