Sub: Vacation and Holidays for the Subordinate Courts in the State of Tamil Nadu for the year 2024 – Observance of – Reg.

1. The Subordinate Civil Courts in the State of Tamil Nadu are required toobserve the following periods of adjournments in respect of the Vacation and Holidays for the year 2024:
VACATION & HOLIDAYS
SUMMER VACATION DUSSEHRA HOLIDAYS CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS
Wednesday, the 1st day of May, 2024 to Sunday, the 2nd day of June, 2024. Saturday, the 5th day of October, 2024 to Sunday, the 13th day of October, 2024. Tuesday, the 24th day of
December, 2024 to Tuesday, the 31st day of December, 2024.
2. The Holidays for all the Subordinate Courts in the State of Tamil Nadu, forthe year 2024 are as follows :-
(a)All Sundays are Holidays for all the Subordinate Courts including Family Courts functioning in the State of Tamil Nadu.
(b)The following 10 Saturdays are working days for all the Subordinate Courts including Family Courts functioning in the State of Tamil Nadu: 06.01.2024, 03.02.2024, 02.03.2024, 06.04.2024, 15.06.2024, 06.07.2024, 03.08.2024
21.09.2024, 16.11.2024 and 07.12.2024.
(c)Except the above Saturdays, all other Saturdays are holidays for all the Subordinate Courts, except Family Courts.
(d)All the Family Courts functioning in the State of Tamil Nadu shall also work on 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month except those Saturdays which are declared as Public Holidays. All other Saturdays are declared as holidays.

Note: As Tamil New Year’s Day/Dr.B.R.Ambedkar’s Birthday (14.04.2024), Mahaveer Jayanthi (21.04.2024), Vinayakar Chathurthi (07.09.2024) and Vijaya Dasami (12.10.2024) fall on Saturdays/Sundays, these days are not shown in the above list.
3. All the Principal District Judges / District Judges and Unit Heads in ChennaiCity are directed to issue Notification in the Official Gazette declaring the periods of adjournments specified in Para – 1 above, as ‘Vacation and Holidays’ and other
Holidays specified in Para – 2 above as ‘Holidays’ for all the Civil Courts in their Jurisdiction, in consonance with the above instructions.
4. All the Chief Judicial Magistrates / Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore,Chennai are directed to issue Notification in the Official Gazette declaring the Holidays specified in para – 2 above only, as ‘Holidays’ for all the Criminal Courts in their Jurisdiction.
The receipt of this Official Memorandum is required to be acknowledged immediately.
