The trailer for the Rajinikanth starrer Vettaiyan was released on Thursday, where it is clear that the film revolves around encounter killings. On Friday, K Palanivelu from Madurai filed a public interest litigation (PIL) before the Madras High Court’s Madurai Bench, seeking to either remove or mute the dialogue that says ‘renowned encounter specialist’, and a dialogue on encounters that says they are not just a punishment but also a preventive action.

The petitioner sought the Central Board of Film Certification to re-examine the film, mentioning that it glorifies extrajudicial killings. Palanivelu has asked for the screening of the film to be halted until these changes are made. A division bench admitted the petition and has ordered a notice. 

The TJ Gnanavel film hits theatres on October 10 and boasts an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Kishore, and VJ Rakshan. Going by the trailer, it will see Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan come from opposing view points on encounter killings. Rajinikanth plays a policeman who speaks for the concept, while Amitabh speaks against it.

On the technical crew, Vettaiyan has music by Anirudh. Other members include cinematographer SR Kathir and editor Philomin Raj. Vettaiyan is scheduled to hit theatres on October 10 in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada
