[4/19, 07:44] Mhc Advt Maharaja Advt: One of my very fond and cherished memory as an ADVOCATE is when I handled the ‘ATHI VARATHAR’ Case in the year 2019. More than feeling Honoured, I would say I’ am blessed to have appeared in that case that to as a SPECIAL GOVERNMENT PLEADER for the HR&CE Department. I would definitely consider this as a blessing first to be an Advocate and Secondly to be bestowed with the opportunity to represent in such a landmark and famous case. When the Idol of athi varathar was taken out in 1979, I was a Teen and never in my wildest dream would I have thought that I would be a part of the Subsequent event in the year 2019. In the year 2019 when it was proposed by the HR&CE department that the Idol of Athi Varathar will be taken out, there were literally swarms of Writ Petitions being filed before the Hon’ble High Court of Madras with various requests, proposals and of course there were few Writ Petitions which wanted the entire process to be abated or to be done according to the conditions and guidelines of a particular sect. A PIL was filed (which marked the first litigation in the matter of Athi Varathar) by one of the sects of the Vadakalai who had stated that the Idol has to be taken out after their chief Priests recite the vedas. While the Writ was pending and since no Interim Orders were passed, the Idol which was proposed to be taken out on Monday was taken out on the late hours of Saturday itself in order to avoid any complications or further litigations. Thereafter around 15 Writs and PIL were filed while the Idol was placed for the Public Dharshan, one such Writ Petition was filed to preserve the Temple and the Anatha Saras Kulam which was taken up as an important case. The Writ was posted before his Lordship Hon’ble Mr. Justice P.D. Audikesavalu. I want to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude and also to immensely thank his Lordship for effectively handling the case and above all, I was privileged to be appointed as an OBSERVER in the Writ Petition to oversee the clearing activities of the Temple tank along with me his Lordship had also appointed the then Additional Government Pleader Mr. Karthikeyan as an observer. Because of this I had received one of a great Life-time blessing wherein I had the privilege and opportunity to enter into the Temple Tank and also to clean the tank by myself. I had taken it upon me to actually clean the Steps of the Anantha Saras Kulam – I would say that it is a Life-time blessing. This would not be possible if not for His Lordship who had appointed me as an observer. The next Athi Varathar Dharshan will be in the year 2059, If alive and healthy I would be around 96 years old. I do not know what the future holds for me whether I will be around or if around whether I will be able to have a Dharshan of the Athi Varathar. But I would genuinely say that this opportunity in the year 2019 was one of the best and most cherished event in my life and I’am more than blessed to have been a small part in the Historical event. In fine I would like to once again thank his Lordship Hon’ble Mr.Justice P.D.AUDIKESAVALU for making me the observer for the Athi Varathar Temple Tank cleaning process which made me stand so close to the deity and also enabled me to clean the Tank personally.
