Justices R Subbiah and R Pongiappan Set aside an award for Rs.86 lakhs plus for an injured claimant – by orders dt.11/3/2020- against. Claim for Rs. 36 lakhs passed by a MACT Judge R Venkatasubramanian, CBE. He was initially transferred immediately- then one of his astronomical awards was placed in his Confidential Report record by Justices M M Sundresh and Krishnan Ramaswami and then in CMA No.4375/2019 his award for Rs.1,93,60,000/- with interest and costs set aside and Registrar General High Court was directed to initiate departmental action against him. This award has sent a chilling message to the courts below that accountability is expected and apart from orders being set aside on the judicial side- administrative side of the High Court may also take note of such orders. The High Court has sent a wonderful message as a huge blow to infuse honesty and integrity as necessary faculties, while the courts below pass orders in litigations brought before them. Added to suspension of several others, there is a sincere effort from the High Court to cleanse the judiciary of elements, which may not belong there. The learned judges of the High Court deserve our kudos for taking note and cracking the whip in a very welcome development long pending and due.
