Supreme court directed the State of Chhatisgarh to file a report about reason for over detention of a convict and other similar prisoners to punish the State. After hearing A.Sirajudeen, senior advocate, the Supreme Court observed that the State has to be punished for such over detention and directed the State Government to file a report in this regard and also other cases of over detention and adjourned the case by four weeks.

In a case of rape that took place in 2012 in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh state, the Sessions court convicted Bhola Kumhar for 12 years which was reduced to 7 years by the High Court. Bhola Kumhar preferred SLP before the Supreme court and Senior Advocate A.Sirajudeen appeared for him. He pointed out that the convict has been confined in prison even after serving the whole sentence imposed.
After the Supreme court issued notice in this regard, Bhola Kumhar was released on 16.3.2022. The case again came up today before the Supreme court.
