Mr. Isaac Mohanlal, Senior Advocate appearing for Dr. Thangavel submitted that the Government has no power under the Periyar University Act to issue such a direction. He submitted that only the Syndicate of the University is the authority in relation to issues of this nature. The Syndicate of the University has permitted Dr. Thangavel to go on retirement.

The Hon’ble High Court of Madras today (28.02.2024) issued notice to the Government and the Periyar University in the Writ Petition filed by the erstwhile Registrar (FAC) of the University Dr. K. Thangavel challenging the Principal Secretary to the State Government’s direction to suspend him from service without permitting him to retire. The Hon’ble Court directed the Government and the University to file their response and posted the case for hearing on 14.03.2024.
